Metatarsalgia, Tendon Disorders, Fractures, Gout, Arthritis

Metatarsalgia

Each foot has five metatarsals, long bones supporting the toes. When the foot pushes off the ground, the distribution of the body's entire weight is across these bones and their related joints.

‘Fat pads’ located under the foot cushion provide shock absorption to the metatarsal joints. Abnormal pressure across the metatarsal heads can lead to calluses, plantar corns, nerve and joint pain, and loss of fat pad. Any foot structure that produces imbalanced weight-bearing can result in these problems.

Tendon Disorders

You can injure tendons as a result of either acute or chronic damage. Sports activities or trauma often cause sudden impact and disruption of a tendon. Chronic injury can occur from an abnormality of bones and joints. After an X-ray examination, you may require physical therapy, immobilization, or advanced imaging.

Sprains, Tendon Injuries & Fracture Management

Any patient who suspects they have experienced a sudden injury should contact the office promptly for evaluation to determine the scope and extent of the injury. Look for:

  • Swelling
  • Pain
  • Discoloration
  • Deformity

Gout & Arthritis

Gout is an arthritic disease caused by a chemical in the blood called uric acid. The uric acid crystals accumulate in the joint causing severe inflammation and pain. It often presents in the foot in men and post-menopausal women. We use local and medical strategies.

Arthritis is a broad term that includes osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and several inflammatory diseases. Treatments may include physical therapy and corrective foot devices.
